Computer Requirements for Using Moodle

To access your Moodle course(s), you will need to have:

  • A reliable connection to the Internet.
  • A recommended web browser with javascript and cookies enabled
  • Pop-up blockers disabled.

To see if your computer and Web browser are configured to use Moodle properly, go to UVic’s Moodle Browser Check page.

Recommended Web Browsers

Not all browsers fully support Moodle functions. The following are the browsers the Onlinehelp Desk supports for Moodle use:

For Windows computers:

  • Internet Explorer: versions 10.0 or later
  • Mozilla Firefox: latest version

For Apple computers:

  • Mozilla Firefox: latest version

Browsers not listed above may lack some Moodle functionality and are NOT supported by the Onlinehelp Desk. If you are not certain what version of web browser – or which web browser – you are using, you can find out by using the Moodle Browser Check linked above.

Using Mobile Devices for Your Courses

If you are planning on accessing your online courses using a mobile device such as a tablet or a smartphone, please note that not all required course features will be accessible with these devices. Your mobile devices can be used to access some of your online course tools; however, to fully function in your online courses, you will need to have access to a computer running Windows or MacOS. Please see the “Computer Requirements” page on the Distance Education Services website for complete support details.
