Chat Window in Elluminate
The Chat Window contains the tools that allow instant text messages to be sent by moderators and participants in the Elluminate session.
In the Chat window, you have the following options:
- View and Filter Text Messages
All text messages are displayed in the Chat Window in the order in which they were sent. By default, the most recently sent messages are displayed at the bottom. You can use the scroll bar on the right to scroll up and view earlier messages from your session. NOTE: If any messages were typed into the Chat window before you entered your Elluminate classroom, you will NOT see them.
You can filter the messages displayed so that only certain types of messages appear in your Chat Window (for example, only those messages sent by a specific person). You can do this by using the ‘Show’ drop-down menu above the Chat Window. Select the group of messages you wish to view, and only those messages will appear in your Chat Window. (See image below)
All messages are date- and time-stamped as they are sent, but by default, the date/time-stamps are not displayed. If you wish to display the date/time-stamps (for example, to see the time a message was sent), click on the ‘Clock’ button above the Chat Window (on the right-hand side). To stop displaying the date/time-stamps, click on the ‘Clock’ button again. (See image below)
- Send a Text Message
To send a text message, simply select the recipient (if necessary), type your message and press <Enter> or click the Send button. Make sure to type your message into the text box directly above the Send button (see image below).
You can select the recipient to whom you are sending your message by using the drop-down menu directly below the Chat Window. You can send a message to the entire room, to only the moderators, or to any other participant in the room. Note that moderators will see any message you send, even if it is a private message to another participant. See the drop-down list in the image below to see how this works.
After typing your message, press <Enter> on your keyboard or click the Send button and the message you typed will appear in the Direct Messaging Window. You can see the result in the image below.
