Problems joining a Blackboard Collaborate session

If you have problems joining a Blackboard Collaborate session, this may be due to one or more of the following:

Pop-up blocker?

You may be running a pop-up blocker. You can check this by going to the Browser test page in this Startup Kit.

Blackboard Collaborate start-up file

In order to start up, Blackboard Collaborate must be allowed to download and run a file on your computer; this file is named meeting.jnlp.

  • If a yellow bar appears at the top of your browser window:
    • Click on the yellow bar and select ‘Download File…’ from the menu that pops up.
  • If you are asked to Save and/or Open a file (meeting.jnlp) at this point:
    • If you have the option to open this file, do so. You may first be asked to “accept” an agreement. If so, click on the “I agree” option, and then click on the OK button to open the file.
    • If you only have the option to save the file, save it to your desktop. Once the file has downloaded, you will be asked if you wish to open it. Do so.

Java

Blackboard Collaborate will not run if Java is not installed on your computer. To determine if Java is installed on your computer, go to the Java homepage and follow the instructions to download and install Java if you need to.
