File formats in Blackboard Collaborate

You can import two formats of presentation for presenting in the Whiteboard:

  • Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2008 (or earlier) files, which have the extension .PPT or .PPTX
  • OpenOffice.org Impress files, which have the extension .ODP

If you are asked to present during a Blackboard Collaborate session, you need to submit your presentation to your instructor for her/him to upload to the Blackboard Collaborate session. Therefore, make sure to first find out which file format she or he prefers before creating and saving your presentation. See the Submit presentation page in this Startup Kit for further information.

If you have content such as a Word file or a spreadsheet that you would like to include in your presentation, you will need to import that content into a PowerPoint or Impress presentation, or display it using Application Sharing.

NOTE: Do not use the symbols < or > in either your slide titles or in the notes sections of your slides. If these symbols are in the titles or the notes, your slides will not open in Blackboard Collaborate!
