Clearing Your Browser Cache

Clearing your Web brower's cache is a good habit to get into, especially if you use the internet regularly. Your browser stores images and other information from websites it visits in a temporary file or memory cache of its own. This can sometimes help the load-time of a site to be a bit faster, since your browser doesn't have to actually go out and download the same files over and over again. However, if you find you are having trouble viewing a site or aren't seeing updates that you know have been made, this could be because your browser is just showing a cached version of the site, instead of the most up-to-date version. To force your browser to go out and refind the site and all its files, you should clear your stored cache.

Note: This will not erase your bookmarks / favourites.

Clear Cached Files in Internet Explorer

  • Open your Web browser.

  • Click on the gear icon IE Gear Icon in your toolbar, hover over 'Safety' and select "Delete Browsing History…".

  • In the Delete Browsing History window, place check marks in "Temporary Internet files and "Cookies", and remove any check mark from "Preserve Favourites website data". (See image below.)

  • Click on the "Delete" button.

Clear Cached Files in Firefox

  • Open your Web browser.

  • Click on the Firefox menu (Firefox menu), hover over "History" and select "Clear Recent History…"

  • In the Clear Recent History window:

    • Open the "Time range to clear" drop-down menu and select "Everything".
    • Click the "Details" button and place check marks in "Cookies" and "Cache".

  • Once your Clear Recent History window appears as in the image below, click the "OK" button.

Clear Cached Files in Safari

  • Open your Web browser.

  • Click on Safari in your toolbar and select "Empty Cache".

  • When prompted with the question "Are you sure you want to empty the cache?", click the Empty button.
